Meetings:
2 meetings were held during the academic year (4/14/97 and 4/21/97). No formal minutes were taken at any of the meetings. Average attendance was 5 members. The University Theme Committee wishes to thank Sarojini Lotlikar for her years of service to the Committee and the University.

Recommendation to select as the 2000-2001 academic theme "Building a community of pARTnerships: The Role of Arts in Society". Motion to be approved by Faculty Senate.

Other Deliberations and Actions:
The Committee solicited from Faculty, Staff, and students suggestions for the 2000-2001 Academic Theme. Five suggestions were received. The titles are listed below and copies of the original proposals are attached to this report:

One theme was not considered since its sponsor was unknown. Committee members met or conferred with the four remaining sponsors to hear their ideas about the intended focus of and events related to their themes and decided to recommend to the Faculty Senate for the 2000-2001 Academic Theme "Building a community of pARTnerships: The Role of Arts in Society" (proposed by Micheal Houlahan). The Committee also encouraged the other known proposers to resubmit their proposals in the future since all were considered to be strong proposals.

Matters Currently in Committee:
None.

Future Plans:
Next year, the Committee will solicit suggestions for the 2001-2002 Academic Theme and monitor the progress of other themes presently in preparation.
