COMMENT: ESCI 227 and 328 will replace ESCI 223 Mineralogy, ESCI 224 Optical Mineralogy/X-Ray Diffraction, and ESCI 324 Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology/Petrography, which should be deleted from the undergraduate catalog, effective Spring 1998.

COMMENT: Approval was given retroactively to count ESCI 379 Aqueous Geochemistry, offered Spring 1996, as a Writing course.

COMMENT: Approval was given retroactively to count ESCI 390 Planetary Geology, offered Fall 1996, as a Writing course.

COMMENT: The original proposal was to offer CHEM 205, a previously approved general education G2 course, as both a 3-credit lecture and as a 4-credit lab course under the same course number. Students would have registered for one or the other section, depending on whether they needed credit for a lab science course. However, this presented administrative problems for scheduling, degree audits, and reporting. In consultation with the School Dean and Department Chair, it was decided that the course will be handled administratively as two separate course umbers: CHEM 205 (lecture) and CHEM 206 (lab), with the same course title, to facilitate better tracking. Students who wish to take the 1-credit lab must register simultaneously for the 3-credit lecture.
