APPROVAL OF FACULTY SENATE CURRICULAR RECOMMENDATIONS |
As the President's designee, I am informing you of the approval of the
following Faculty Senate Curricular Actions:
1. Faculty Senate actions at meeting on November 16, 1999
New Undergraduate Courses:
HIST 105 - Introduction to the Craft of History
- 3 credits, G3, required for BA History majors;
- not required for BSE Social Studies/History option;
- not required for the minor in History
- Pre-requisite: none
Approved, effective Fall 2000
HIST 106 - Contours of United States History
- 3 credits, G3;
- replaces HIST 103 and HIST 104 which are being deleted;
- failing grades in EITHER 103 OR 104 may be replaced by a passing grade
in HIST 106
- Pre-requisite: none
COMMENTS: Changes to the BSE Social Studies major and to the minor in History
are necessary since they include HIST 103 and 104. These changes will be
processed as minor changes through the social science curriculum committee,
the dean, and the associate provost for academic administration.
Approved, effective Fall 2000
HIST 406 - Senior Seminar
- 3 credits, required for the BA in History major;
- Pre-requisite: 75 credits passed
Approved, effective Fall 2000
Changes in Courses/Curricula:
Revision of the BA in History to increase the number of required credits
from 36 to 42 and to eliminate the area of concentration requirement.
- Delete HIST 100, 103, and 104 from the catalog
- Add HIST 105, 106, to the required block
- Add HIST 406, Senior Seminar to the required block
- Increase the Elective block from 21 to 27 credits
- Include a distribution requirement in the elective block that requires
9 credits of European History, 9 credits of United States History and 6
credits of Asian, African, and Latin American History.
- Eliminate all references to Areas of Concentration
- Renumber several courses to clearly identify both the level and the
geographical area of the course.

2. Faculty Senate actions at meeting on February 1, 2000
New Undergraduate Courses:
ELED 325 - The Teaching of Literacy, Process, Skills, and Strategies
- 6 credits
- Replaces ELED 321 and 322 which are deleted from the catalog
- Replaces ELED 321 and 322 in the Elementary Education major
- Pre-requisite: 60 credits passed and
admission to Advanced Professional Studies

Change in Course Prerequisites
EDUC 333 - Children's Literature
- Add the following Pre-requisite:
EDFN 241 - Psychological Foundations of Teaching or
PSYC 227 - Development of the Child and Adolescent or
PSYC 228 - Life Span Human Development
Approved, effective Fall 2000
Change in Course labeling
Allow MUSI 499, Departmental Honors, to satisfy the Advanced Writing
requirement of general education
Approved, effective Fall 2000
COMMENTS: The title of MUSI 499 is Departmental Honors to be consistent with
all other 499 courses. Its prerequisite is MUSI 489, Honors Course. Students
successfully completing MUSI 499 will not have to take any AW course in
general education.
