SUBJECT: |
APPROVAL OF FACULTY SENATE CURRICULAR RECOMMENDATIONS |
As the Presidents designee, I am informing you of the approval of the
following Faculty Senate Curricular Actions:
1. Faculty Senate actions at meeting on June 15, 1999
New Undergraduate Courses:
--SOCY 313 Sociology of Disaster (3 credits, gen. ed. G3
Writing course)
Approved, effective Fall 1999
--HUMN 380 Latino Issues of Identity (3 credits, gen. ed.
Perspectives course)
Approved, effective Fall 1999
COMMENT: The grading scale included in the course proposal was corrected
to include the D grade. Approval was granted to apply the Perspectives
designation to SPAN 379 Issues in Latino Writing for students who took the
course in Spring 1998. However, the Provost has asked the school deans to
work with the departments and faculty on the issue of requests for
retroactive approvals.
Change in Courses and Curricula:
--CSCI 380 Operating Systems--change prerequisites from CSCI
362 Data Structures alone to both CSCI 362 and CSCI 270 Computer
Architecture.
Approved, effective Fall 1999
--CSCI 476 Parallel Programming--change prerequisites from
CSCI 362 Data Structures alone to both CSCI 362 and CSCI 270 Computer
Architecture.
Approved, effective Fall 1999
--BSE Art Education--addition of required related courses: add
PSYC 100 General Psychology and PSYC 227 Child and Adolescent Psychology
as required related courses.
Approved, effective Fall 1999
COMMENT: Because of the high demand for PSYC 227, which is required in a
number of majors, Dr. McNairy asked the school deans to monitor demand for
this course and the impact of the change in the Art Education program
