As the President's designee, I am informing you of the approval of the
following Faculty Senate Curricular Actions:
1) Faculty Senate actions at meeting on June 12,
2001
New Undergraduate Courses:
MATH 107 - College Algebra Enrichment
- 1 credit
- Pre-req. - none
- No general education credit
COMMENT: This course is a co-requisite and supplement to MATH 101, College
Algebra, and is intended for those students who need additional support and
tutoring. The course will be offered for two years (2001-03) as part of a
pilot project funded by a SSHE Social Equity Grant.

MATH 171 - Freshman Seminar in Mathematics
- 1 credit
- Co-req. - MATH 161 or 163
- No general education credit
COMMENT: This course does not count towards the mathematics major (nor the
mathematics major's GPA) but will be limited to those freshmen mathematics
majors who also place into MATH 161 or higher. Only one section will be
offered in fall semesters.

SOCY 148 - Major Orientation Course
- 1 credit
- Pre-req. - restricted to Sociology majors
- No general education credit
COMMENT: This course does not count towards the sociology major (nor the

- Replaces ELED 210 in the ELED major program
COMMENT: This course was formerly taught under the ELED 210 label but a
separate course is needed to serve a different clientele. ELED 210 will
continue with enrollment restricted to ELED ECHD majors while this new course
is intended for ELED, SPED, and other EDUC majors.

EDUC 316 - The Parent Teacher Relationship in the Elementary School
- 3 credit
- Writing Course in General Education (W label)
- Pre-req. -(EDUC 215 or PSCY 227) and ENGL 110,
- Replaces ELED 314 in the ELED major program
COMMENT: This course was formerly taught under the ELED 314 label but a
separate course is needed to serve a different clientele. ELED 314 will
continue with enrollment restricted to ELED ECHD majors while this new course
is intended for ELED, SPED, and other EDUC majors.
