APPROVAL OF FACULTY SENATE CURRICULAR RECOMMENDATIONS |
As the President's designee, I am informing you of the approval of the
following Faculty Senate Curricular Actions:
- Faculty Senate action at meeting on February 6, 2001
Changes in Undergraduate Curriculum:
The Undergraduate Honors Program Committee has recommended deleting the
requirement of requiring a minimum of two honors course in each of the
following academic areas: Humanities and Fine Arts (G1), Science and
Mathematics (G2) and Social Sciences (G3).
COMMENT: The intent of this change is to define honors requirements
independently of Gen Ed blocks. In fact, required honors course work
does result in at least one course per block (Western Literary
Tradition in G-1; Lab Science in G-2, and Western Intellectual Tradition in
G-3).
The University Honors Program Committee's recommendation will simplify the
requirement of 30 credit hours of honors courses-to give more options for
students to choose Honors courses in general education, major or minor fields,
or electives.
The Honors degree will still require a total of 30 credits in Honors courses
to include Thesis, Perspectives, Lab science, Western Literary Tradition, and
Western Intellectual Tradition courses. The requirements amount to at least
one Honors course in each General Education block, but it is more an "Honors
core curriculum" than a specifically general education pattern.
Approved, effective Fall 2001
