APPROVAL OF FACULTY SENATE CURRICULAR RECOMMENDATIONS |
As the President's designee, I am informing you of the approval of the
following Faculty Senate Curricular Actions:
1) Faculty Senate actions at meeting on June 12,
2001
Changes in Undergraduate Courses/Curricula:
Change the Technology Education (EDTE) Major as follows:
- Require second MATH course in G2 (REQUIRED RELATED)
- Add EDTE 321 to the Professional Requirements block
- Revise EDTE 491 from 3 credits to a 1-credit course (effective spring
2002)
- Add one credit to the Professional Requirements block
- Revise the field experiences in EDTE 291 during the junior block
- Revise EDTE 391 to partner with EDFN 321 in the junior block
COMMENT: Additional details and rationale are explained in the Academic
Proposal accompanying these changes. A curriculum sheet showing the changes is
also attached.
Approved, effective Fall 2001
Change a pre-requisite for SOCY 301 (Research Methods)
- Earn a C- or better in SOCY 250 (Social Statistics)
Approved, effective Fall 2001
Change certain requirements for the Sociology Minor
- Drop SOCY 401, Sociological Theory, as a requirement
- Change 6 credits of 300-400 level sociology classes to
9 credits of 300-400 level sociology classes
Approved, effective Fall 2001
Change the minimum grade required to a C for all core requirements,
electives and required related courses in the major in every BSE Elem Educ
major and in the BSE Elem Educ/Sped dual major.
COMMENT: this change will reduce confusion with the Special Education major
which also requires a minimum grade of C. Moreover, this change will assist
students in meeting the new certification requirement of 3.0 or better
GPA
Approved, effective Fall 2001
Change the Criteria for Admission to APS (Advanced Professional Studies)
to:
- Completion of 60 credits
- Attaining a MU GPA as follows:
- 2.6 if admitted to APS during 2001-2002 academic year
- 2.9 if admitted to APS during 2002-2003 academic year
- 3.0 if admitted to APS beginning Fall 2003 and beyond
- Qualifying scores on the Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Test
- Recommendation for admission by a faculty member teaching professional
education courses.
- Satisfactory completion of ENGL 110 and COMM 100
- Two college-level (6 credits) English courses (including ENGL 110)
- Two college-level (6 credits) Mathematics courses
- Satisfactory Act 34 (Criminal Record Check) report, Satisfactory Act 151
(Child Abuse History clearance) report, and a completed background information
sheet on file with the Early Field Experiences office.
Approved, effective Fall 2001
Change the Criteria for Completion of an MU Professional Educator Program
and eligibility for an MU endorsement for a Pennsylvania Certificate to:
- Earn a bachelor's degree or higher
- Complete student teaching or a required graduate clinical practicum at
Millersville University
- Complete a Millersville University approved program for professional
educators
- Complete the program with an overall minimum Millersville University GPA
of
- 3.0 or
- 2.8 and have earned a score on the appropriate subject area assessment
required under Chapter 49.18 that is at least one standard error of
measurement above the qualifying score for that assessment, or
- 2.8 and have earned a score on the appropriate professional knowledge
assessment required under Chapter 49.18 that is at least one standard error of
measurement above the qualifying score for that assessment
- Complete the program with a minimum Millersville GPA in each certificate
category in which the candidate plans to serve as follows:
- Academic year 2001-02: 2.6 GPA
- Academic year 2002-03: 2.8 GPA
- Academic year 2003-04 and after: 3.0 GPA

Changes in Graduate Courses/Curricula:
Change the Criteria for Admission to Advanced Professional Studies to:
- An assessment of academic performance including the Miller Analogy Test
(MAT) or the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
- An overall minimum quality point average of
- 3.0 GPA on the most recently earned degree or a
- 3.0 GPA on Millersville University graduate course work.
- Faculty and professional recommendations
- Record of competence and effectiveness in professional work.
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Satisfactory Act 34 report, satisfactory Act 151 report and a completed
background information sheet on file with the Early Field Experiences office.
- Millersville University will consider accepting up to 10% of the
applicants
for admission to basic professional educator programs and admission to an
advanced professional educator program who do not meet the minimum GPA for
admission.

Change the Criteria for Completion of an MU Professional Educator Program
