The following changes have been identified as minor curricular changes for the Nursing department, effective Spring 2006.

Changes in Graduate Course/Curricular Change:

Revised Pre-req: NONE
Rationale: Removing the pre-requisites would allow students to begin their academic study in the NCM Core Courses followed by the advanced practice and core courses. Effective for Winter/Spring 2006 registration

Rational: Deleting the six credits of electives brings the credit requirements more in line with the number of credits believed to be satisfactory for the MSN Nursing Case Management option.

UPDATE Admission requirements for the M.S.N. Nursing, Case Management degree and certificate option to align with the admission requirements for the M.S.N. Nursing Education degree and certificate option.

New Admission requirements for MSN, Case Management Applicants:

Applicants may either apply to the Master of Science in Nursing, Case Management or the certificate in Nursing, Case Management Program.

Admission requirements:

  1. Baccalauleate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing (NLNAC or CCNE).
  2. Undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. When GPA is below this, probationary acceptance may be considered if the candidate demonstrates graduate study potential by other means.
  3. Satisfactory performance on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
  4. Satisfactory completion of an undergraduate statistics course (equivalent to Math 130) and a research course in nursing.
  5. Satisfactory completion of an undergraduate health assessment course; if the course is more than 5 years old the student will be required to complete a refresher course.
  6. Computer literacy and access to a computer and Internet service.
  7. Three current academic and/or professional references.
  8. Licensure as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania or in the state where clinical practice or internship is to be arranged.
  9. Minimum of one year of clinical experience in nursing.
  10. Current resume including one clinical experience.

If applicants apply for the certificate option in Nursing, Case Management, the admission requirements also include:

  1. Baccalaureate or Master's degree (preferably in nursing).
  2. Grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. When the GPA is below this, probationary admission may be considered if the candidate demonstrates potential by other means.

Rationale: The changes would bring the admission requirements in line with those of the M.S.N. Nursing Education options. The requirements allow students flexibility of enrolling in courses that provide them with the educational experience they need to either enhance their current role as a Nursing Case Manager or to secure a position as a Nursing Case Manager.
