Changes in Undergraduate Courses/Curricula continued:
The following charts represent curricular changes for the B.S.E. Social Studies and Biology programs. The reduction in maximum credit hours for graduation from 129 to 126, except for Social Studies at 123 to 120, is mandated by PASSHE effective, Fall 2005.
BSE in Social Studies | Proposed Changes | Analysis/Implications |
---|---|---|
COMMENT: In addition to B.S.E. Social Studies students being able to satisfy the advanced writing requirement with HIST 406 with a grade of B or higher, Deans' Council recommends applying HIST 406 with a grade of B or higher for the B.A. History majors, too.
Approved, effective Fall 2005
Changes in Undergraduate Courses/Curricula continued:
BSE Biology - Current Curriculum | Proposed Changes | Analysis/Implications |
---|---|---|
The Biology Department requested a waiver of the Perspectives Requirement by Faculty Senate. The waiver would be granted to comply with the credit limitations imposed by the Board of Governors. If the content of any of the courses in the Biology BSEd were to change substantially, the waiver would have to be reconsidered. |
Changes in Courses/Curricula:
MUSI 363 - Music History and Literature II
The course is approved to double count in the B.A. Music and B.S.E Music Education programs AND perspectives requirement for another academic year (2005-2006) and not the B.A. Music, Industry Studies option. The B.A. Music, Industry Studies option does not require students to take MUSI 363.
COMMENT: During the 2002-2003 academic year, academic majors over the 120 maximum credit for graduation had to review their programs to reduce their requirements to meet the 120 credit state mandate. Normally, double counting a course in the general education perspectives requirement and major is prohibited. In June of 2003, Faculty Senate approved the Music department's request to allow MUSI 363 to double count in the B.A. Music (no option) and the B.S.E. Music programs AND the general education perspective requirement, for one academic year; 2003-2004. This request is reviewed on an academic year basis since the General Education Task Force will be reviewing the general education requirements. The Music department and the General Education Review Committee will want to reconsider this exception if the general education program is changed.
Approved, effective Fall 2004 through Spring 2006
