WHEREAS: |
Dr. Edward D. Plank, Professor of Elementary and Early Childhood
Education, has retired in August of 1995 after 26 years of service to
Millersville University; and |
WHEREAS: |
Dr. Plank has been a dedicated instructor and has taught undergraduate
and graduate courses; and |
WHEREAS: |
Dr. Plank developed and served as Director of the Para-professional
Training and a Reading and Study Skills Program; and |
WHEREAS: |
Dr. Plank was committed to scholarship and received State and Federal
funds; and |
WHEREAS: |
Dr. Plank served as Driector of Economic Education, and Assistant
Director of Summer Happening; ad |
WHEREAS: |
Dr. Plank received a grant from the Pew Foundation for being an
outstanding educator; and |
WHEREAS: |
Dr. Plank served as Chair of Teacher Education Council; and |
WHEREAS: |
Dr. Plank conducted numerous in-service programs in the local schools
districts; and |
WHEREAS: |
Dr. Plank served as a workshop leader and resource person in many of
the local community church organizations; and |
WHEREAS |
Roger B. Wilson, Assistant Professor of Science Education, retired in
August 1995, after seven years at Millersville University and twenty years
in public school teaching; and |
WHEREAS |
Professor Wilson has been a model of teaching with enthusiasm;
and |
WHEREAS |
Professor Wilson provided leadership that resulted in a three year
team-teaching project known as the integrated unit; and |
WHEREAS |
Professor Wilson provided leadership in a curriculum option for
elementary education majors known as "Focus on Science," and |
WHEREAS |
Professor Wilson was chairman of the Graduate Program and Review
Committee for three years; and |
WHEREAS |
Professor Wilson served on numerous university, college, and
department committees including Academic Theme; tEacher Education Council,
and Search Committees; and |
WHEREAS |
Professor Wilson was a faculty Senator for three years; and |
WHEREAS |
Professor Wilson will be remembered by students and colleagues for his
humor, his enthusiasm, and his unique ability to convince students to
collect roadkill; |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Rosemary Winkeljohann, Department of Elementary Education, retired
in August of 1995, after 10 1/2 years of service to Millersville
University; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Rosemary Winkeljohann developed an M.Ed. in Reading Language Arts,
three writing "W" courses: EDUC 423, 424, and 425; and one Perspectives
course EDUC 433; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann provided national leadership in the area of education
through the National Council of Teachers of English by serving on the
Executive Board for four years and serving as Chair of the NCTE's
Elementary Steering Committee; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann published 10 articles and was co-editor of the
Proceedings of IBBY (International Board on Books for Youth) Conference,
September 1992; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann was a member of the executive board of the
Lancaster-Lebanon Reading Council for eight years; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann was an Executive Board member of the Pennsylvania
Council on Children's Literature; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann coordinated a Millersville Unviersity Education
Conference for nine years, which serves the teachers in the area; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann coordinated the Artist/Scholar in Residence for the
Elementary Education Department; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann was the Graduate Coordinator for the M.Ed. in Reading
Language Arts Program, the Reading Specialist Certification Program and
the Reading Supervisor's Program; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann served on the President's Future of Millersville
Unviersity Committee for three years; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann researched and compiled the third chapter concerning
student life on campus for the Middle States Evaluation of 1990; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann chaired the 1986-87 Search Committee for the Dean of
the School of Education; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann served on several unviersity and departmental
committees; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann was nominated for the National Arbuthnot Award of the
international Reading Association because of outstanding contributions to
the teaching of Children's Literature; and |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann writes for the Beacham's Guide to Literature for
Young Adults and is a consultant to The Advocate. |
WHEREAS |
Dr. Winkeljohann served as library liaison for the Department of
Elementary and Early Childhood Education. |
