SUBJECT:
ANNUAL REPORT OF THE INTERNATIONAL SELECTION COMMITTEE
The International Selection Committee did not have official committee work
to do this year, because there are no openings for international faculty
exchanges. Since the University of Strathclyde, in Glasgow Scotland, has
been unable to accommodate our MU faculty selected here for the exchange
for the past two years, we have not issued a new call for applications.
Efforts are underway, through the Office of International Affairs, to
identify other foreign institutions that may be willing to accept the MU
faculty presently waiting to teach abroad.
However, the International Selection Committee did meet twice during the
Spring 1997 semester to brain storm ways to expand international
opportunities for faculty. Ideas under consideration include research
exchanges; exchanges that are shorter than one semester; new categories of
funding to support faculty travel abroad to present and do research; and
special summer school programs to be taught by visiting foreign faculty.
The committee also is pursuing the possibility of expanding our student
exchange with Aichi University in Japan to include faculty as well.
The committee welcomes suggestions for ways to increase international
activities. Return to Faculty Senate Home Page Return to MU Home Page
