Eugene "Cy" Fritz, Assistant Professor in Health and Physical
Education, retired in August 1997 after 29.5 years of teaching, advising,
coaching and serving as the Director of Intramurals and Recreation and
Associate Director of Men's Athletics at Millersville University; and |
Whereas: |
|
Assistant Professor Fritz served the Health and Physical Education
Department on numerous committees, many of which he chaired; and |
Whereas: |
|
Professor Fritz served the School of Education and the University on
numerous committees, several of which he chaired; and |
Whereas: |
|
Professor Fritz served his profession as President of the Lancaster
Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, (HPERD)
Vice President for Recreation for the Pennsylvania Association for HPERD,
as State Director for the National Intramural Recreation Sports
Association and as President of the Division II Cross Country Coaches
Association; and |
Whereas: |

Professor Fritz initiated several new courses in the department among
them Jogging, Bicycling, and Intramural Sports Administration; and |
Whereas: |
|
Professor Fritz served as Men's Track coach from 1969-1974, (team won
the 1970 PSAC Championships) and Cross Country Coach from 1969-1985 (team
won a PSAC Championship in 1979, two IC4A Championships in 1978 and 1981,
and the NCAA National Division II Championship in 1981) and |
Whereas: |

Professor Fritz coached nine athletes who received All-American
status; and |
Whereas: |
|
Professor Fritz served as the Director of Intramurals and Recreation
from 1969-1997 where he developed a highly recognized campus recreation
program; and |
Whereas: |
|
Professor Fritz was recognized by his peers by being named the Coach
of the Year in 1981 by the Division II Cross Country Coaches Association
and as the Region I Merit Award Winner in 1994 by the National Intramural
Recreations Sports Association; and |
Whereas: |
|
Professor Fritz utilized his professional training and his practical
experience as a basis for providing sound mentorship for numerous athletes
who have gone into coaching and to student intramural supervisors who
continue to serve the recreation profession in public schools, colleges,
and universities; and |
