WHEREAS |

Professor Douglas P. LaPierre, St. has faithfully served Millersville
University for over 28 years, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre served as Millersville University's Curriculum
Coordinator at Millersville's Laboratory School at Eastern State School
and Hospital for five years, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre taught a wide variety of courses at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre developed the Special Education Department's
methods course for social studies and science for the Special Education
major, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre restructured a special education course in
community, state and national resources while adhering faithfully to the
principle of normalization for individuals with handicapping conditions,
and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre was always willing to accept extra assignments as
required by illness and under staffing within the Department, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre served as the Department's Faculty Senator for over
a decade, which included the period of time when the Special Education
major was approved by Faculty Senate, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre served on the Teacher Education Council of the
University from its inception until 1992, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre served on the University Library Advisory Committee
as a representative of the Special Education Department, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre served on the Departmental Budget Committee,
Curriculum Committee, Faculty Search Committee, Professional Block
committee and Promotion, Tenure, Evaluation and Re-Evaluation Committee
for many years, and |
WHEREAS |
|
Professor LaPierre served the citizens of Lancaster County through his
board membership on the Lancaster Assocaition for Retarded Citizens and
membership in the Alliance for the Mentally Ill. |
