SUBJ: Emeritus Recommandation for Dr. William H. Skelly

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS:Dr. William Harold Skelly, Professor of Industry and Technology, retired on January 1, 1999 after 25.5 years of teaching at Millersville University and 10 years of publie school teaching; and

WHEREAS:Dr. Skelly served as assistant chairperson and coordinator of the undergraduate industrial Technology and Technology Education programs for 16.5 years, and as the coordinator of administrative services for Summer Happening workshops for five years; and

WHEREAS:Dr. Skelly has been an exemplary educator of undergraduate and graduate students in electronics, professional teacher education, and futurology perspectives courses and an empathy program and research advisor; and

WHEREAS:Dr. Skelly championed the national accreditation of the undergraduate industrial technology and technology education programs; and

WHEREAS:Dr. Skelly has been a leader and major contributor to the department's Accreditation, Curriculum and Professional Standards Committees and the school's Student Teacher Contact Team and Advanced Professional Studies Appeal Committee; and

WHEREAS:Dr. Skelly served the university as chair of the Promotion and Tenure Committee and the community as a technology education program consultant to several Pennsylvania public school districts and as a leader within his church; and

WHEREAS:Dr. Skelly served as secretary and president of the Industrial Arts Association of Pennsylvania, secretary-treasurer of the American Council of Industrial Arts State Association Officers, treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Technology Student Association and co-trustee of the Beta Phi Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau; and

WHEREAS:Dr. Skelly has authored or co-authored and presented to the State Board of Education various position papers on the inclusion of technology education in the state curriculum regulations; and

WHEREAS:Dr. Skelly was recognized as the Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year for Pennsylvania in 1972, and as the recipient of the Pennsylvania Technology Student Association Distinguished Service Award, the Ralph D. Owen Award for excellence in doctoral work and the Epsilon Pi Tau Laureate Citation;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That Dr. William H. Skelly be granted the honorary title of Professor of Industry and Technology Emeritus.
