Emeritus Resolution for Dr. William V. Kahler
The Department of Wellness and Sport Sciences resolves that
WHEREAS Dr. William V. Kahler, Professor in Health and Physical Education, retired in May 1999 after 30 years of teaching, advising, coaching and serving as the chairperson of the department of Health and Physical Education at Millersville University; and
WHEREAS Professor Kahler represented the Department, School of Education, and the University on numerous committees, as well as Faculty Senate (8 years), and as Department Chairperson (18 years); and
WHEREAS Professor Kahler served his profession as President of the Lancaster/Lebanon Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (LLAHPERD), as well as vice-president at the state level for the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD); and
WHEREAS Professor Kahler was honored by his state (PSAHPERD) and local (LLAHPERD) professional organizations with the following awards; Award for Meritorious Service (state), Service Award (local), Arnold B. Fink Award (local); and
WHEREAS Professor Kahler was active in coaching for many years as an Assistant Football and Wrestling Coach and later as Head Men's Tennis Coach where he led the tennis team to the ECAC Division II Championship (1984) and the PSAC Championship (1985); and
WHEREAS Professor Kahler was instrumental in department curriculum changes, in particular the three credit course "Wellness: Concepts for Health and Fitness", as well as the Master's degree program in Sport Management; and
NOW THERERORE, be it resolved that Dr. William V. Kahler be granted the honorary title of Professor of Health and Physical Education Emeritus.
