SUBJECT: RESOLUTION FOR EMERITA STATUS FOR MRS. MARJORIE A. TROUT

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS Marjorie A. Trout, an Instructor in Wellness and Sport Sciences, is retiring in June 2001 after 37 years of teaching, advising, coaching and serving as Director of Women's Athletics at Millersville University; and

WHEREAS Mrs. Trout served the Wellness and Sport Sciences Department, the School of Education, and the University on numerous committees, a number of which she chaired; and

WHEREAS Mrs. Trout served her profession as President of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for seven years, and as a vice president in the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; and

WHEREAS Under Mrs. Trout's leadership to Millersville University, many student-athletes have been named All-Americans and twelve conference championships in basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, track and field, and volleyball have been achieved; and

WHEREAS Under Mrs. Trout's leadership to Millersville University, student-athletes were named National AIAW Regional Champions in basketball, National Champions in lacrosse and NCAA Regional Champions in field hockey; and

WHEREAS Mrs. Trout has been active over the years as a PIAA official, as an officiating coordinator (PIAA and Eastern Association Intercollegiate Athletics for Women), and numerous NCAA national committees on athletics; and

WHEREAS Mrs. Trout was elected to serve a three year term on the NCAA Division II Management Council; and

WHEREAS Mrs. Trout demonstrated her outstanding expertise in her chosen area by developing many new courses; and

WHEREAS Mrs. Trout's high regard by her fellow professionals is exemplified by her election by the PSAC as chairperson to develop procedures and policies governing championships, and also by the PSAC as chairperson for the Pennsylvania Planning Committee to establish the conference structure and philosophy; and

WHEREAS Mrs. Trout has personified outstanding leadership traits within the University by acting as the Director of Gender Equity; and

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Wellness and Sport Sciences Department unanimously and without reservation recommends that Mrs. Marjone A. Trout be granted the title of Instructor of Wellness and Sport Sciences Ementa.
