Proposed Courses and Programs

There was a discussion of the changes in credits awarded for student teaching and their implications. The justification for the change was attributed to a change in requirements for student teachers. After the discussion, the motion to accept all of the proposals to change the credits awarded for student teaching from 12 to 15 credits (Proposals 1 through 6 below) passed without dissent.

  1. CHANGES IN COURSES/CURRICULA
Increase in credits for student teaching in Secondary Education from 12 to 15 credits in courses taught by the Department of Educational Foundations. The number of credits will increase from 12 to 15 credits for a full semester of student teaching and from 6 to 7.5 credits for a half semester experience. The increase in credits will more accurately reflect the work that is required. The increase in credits will not increase tuition, nor will it affect faculty load or the amount of time needed for graduation. The specific courses affected are:

EDEN 461: Student Teaching in English, 15 credits
EDEN 462: Student Teaching in English, 7.5 credits
EDFL 461: Student Teaching in Foreign Language, 15 credits
EDFL 462: Student Teaching in Foreign Language, 7.5 credits
EDMA 461: Student Teaching in Math, 15 credits
EDMA 462: Student Teaching in Math, 7.5 credits
EDSC 461: Student Teaching in Science, 15 credits
EDSC 462: Student Teaching in Science, 7.5 credits
EDSS 461: Student Teaching in Social Studies, 15 credits
EDSS 462: Student Teaching in Social Studies, 7.5 credits

    Effective Fall 2002.

  2. CHANGES IN COURSES/CURRICULA
Increase in credits for student teaching in EDEL 461/462 from 6 to 7.5 credits for each course and from 12 to 15 credits for both. The increase in credits will more accurately reflect the work that is required. The increase in credits will not increase tuition, nor will it affect faculty load or the amount of time needed for graduation. Also an overall QPA of 2.5 or better and C or better will be required in Professional Block II and courses in the ELED major. Effective Fall 2002.

  3. CHANGES IN COURSES/CURRICULA

Increase in credits for student teaching in EDMU 461 from 12 to 15 credits. The increase in credits will more accurately reflect the work that is required. 7. CHANGES IN COURSES/CURRICULA
Increase in the number required courses in the Accounting Option of the Business Administration Major to seven courses. This will not involve an increase in credits in the option; 120 credits will still be required for graduation. Students will be required to take six required courses and one accounting elective. The courses that will be required are listed below:
    BUAD 361 (261) (Intermediate Accounting I)*
BUAD 362 (262) (Intermediate Accounting II)*
