I. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the November 5, 2002 Faculty Senate Meeting were approved as distributed.
II. Report of the Faculty Senate Chairperson
Senator C. Heintzelman reported for the Faculty Professional Development Council and announced that grant money was available with a focus on University Special Projects and intrasystem projects.
Chairperson Piperberg announced that elections for Faculty Senate officers will take place at the February 4, 2003 Faculty Senate meeting.
Chairperson Piperberg announced that discussion of the Diversity requirement would begin after completion of the normal agenda items.
A S. Yalda/B. Dorman motion passed which suspended the normal Senate rules to allow for extended discussion of the teaching award agenda item at the December 3, 2002 Faculty Senate meeting.

III. Report of the Senate Student President
Student Senate President B. Danz expressed appreciation to all faculty who attended the dedication of the Civil War monument Brick-by-Brick Project.
The Student Senate is also initiating a readership program, which will provide free newspapers to MU students.
The Hon. Rep. Jere Shuler will discuss an open resolution on the MU campus at 6 pm on Thursday, Nov. 21.
IV. Report of the Graduate Student Organization -- No Report.
V. Reports of Administrative Officers
Provost F. McNairy expressed appreciation to all faculty who participated in the open house on Saturday, Nov. 16. She also reported that applications from high profile students from local high schools have increased.
Associate Provost C. Phillips reported that registration for the winter and spring 2003 semesters is going well. She also reported on the activities of the Common Calendar Task Force. In addition, a draft of procedures for future winter sessions was discussed and distributed.
Assistant Provost J. Bello-Ogunu discussed the new Multicultural Mentoring Program and invited faculty to participate.
VI. Reports of the Faculty Senate Standing Committees
UCPRC Chair R. Wismer introduced five proposals:
GCPRC Chair R. Mowrey introduced a new Certification program for Supervision in Curriculum and Instruction.
A R. Mowrey/R. Bookmiller motion passed which sent the issue of the International Studies program to the Academic Policies Committee for further review. The motion proposes referral to the Academic Policies Committee all matters pertaining to International Studies that are currently before the Faculty Senate and asks that the Committee respond in a timely manner with their findings, recommendations and/or a motion.
VII. Report of the Faculty Senate Special Committees
K. Schrieber reported that the Ad Hoc Honor Code Committee had revised the honor code proposal and that it had been sent to Vice President R. Thomas for approval.

IX. Faculty Emeritus
A S. Casselberry/A. Bvrger-Greco motion recommending that Dr. Charles S. Nissly be granted the honorary title of Assistant Professor of International Studies Emeritus passed without dissent. (see attachment.)
A E. Rohena/C. Heintzelman motion recommending that Dr. Ruth M. Buehler be granted the honorary title of Professor of Special Education Emerita passed without dissent. (see attachment.)
X. Discussion of the Diversity (D) Requirement Proposal
The Diversity (D) requirement proposal was discussed at length and given back to the General Education Review Committee that had brought the proposal to Faculty Senate for feedback.
