Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly inspired students semester after semester, broadened their horizons and deepened their understanding of societies around the world; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly took a brand new international studies program and made it into a thriving and vibrant major and minor through his teaching excellence and dedication to students; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly instructed, mentored, and encouraged numerous international studies students and, in so doing, prepared them for careers in many fields, or to further their studies in a variety of graduate programs; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly instilled and nurtured, in international studies majors and general education students alike, a love of intellectual discovery; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly provided international studies students with accurate and thoughtful curricular, study abroad, and career advisement and compassionate personal counseling; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly created new international studies courses, helped to shape the international studies curriculum in valuable and important ways, and was the principal professor for the core courses in that program since its inception to 2002; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly served as the advisor to the Study Abroad Club and helped students find their way to the study abroad programs best suited to their goals; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly created and managed a Foreign Film Festival appreciated by many, from campus and the community; and Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly shared his ongoing creative projects, art, and travels with his students, colleagues, and the community; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly shared his enthusiasm and warmth with students and colleagues alike; and
Whereas Dr. Charles M. Nissly established a legacy of devotion to students and dedication to the international studies program that will be remembered for years to come;
Therefore be it resolved that the faculty of the Department of Sociology/Anthropology unhesitatingly recommends that Dr. Charles M. Nissly be granted the rank of Assistant Professor of International Studies Emeritus.
