WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna, Professor of Government and Political Affairs, retired May 24, 2004, after thirty-seven distinguished years on the faculty of Millersville University; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna was a prominent member of the Department of History (1967-1992) and the Department of Government and Political Affairs (1992-2004); and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna was Chairperson of the Department of Government and Political Affairs from 1998 until his retirement; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna effectively mentored students in pursuit of academic and professional achievement; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna was instrumental in the adoption of Act 188, the act of the Pennsylvania General Assembly creating the State System of Higher Education; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna served Millersville University and State System of Higher Education in a variety of governance capacities during his tenure, including membership on numerous committees, boards of directors, and task forces; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna served the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) in many positions of leadership, including statewide president and chief executive officer for six years; and member of the Meet and Discuss team for over two decades; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna directed the Center for Politics and Political Affairs at Millersville University for eighteen years, from 1986 until his retirement; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna was the founding director of the Keystone Poll, which is used by major state and national news media, including the Philadelphia Daily News, the Harrisburg Patriot News; the Pittsburgh Tribune Review; and WTAE-TV (Pittsburgh); and CNN; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna was widely known for his critical analysis and commentary on Pennsylvania and national politics, giving thousands of interviews on national radio and television, thus enhancing the reputation of Millersville University; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna published hundreds of articles, chapters, editorials, essays, monographs, and reviews on a variety of political subjects in journals, books, newspapers, and magazines; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna delivered dozens of professional papers at academic and governmental conferences; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna offered hundreds of lectures to local, state, and national organizations; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna testified often as an expert witness before the Pennsylvania General Assembly; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna co-authored a biweekly political and public affairs column for Capitolwire, and Internet news service owned by the Associate Press; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna served the Lancaster County community by serving on dozens of boards, commissions, and councils, and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna received the President's Medallion from Millersville University in 2003, which honors individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary service, leadership, and dedication to higher education; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna earned a special commendation for scholarship and leadership from the Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education; and
WHEREAS G. Terry Madonna unfailingly spoke often, loudly, eloquently, and convincingly of the need for, and the importance of, public higher education in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, most importantly, G. Terry Madonna was a congenial colleague and a mentor to many, always willing to lend to hand when asked;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that G. Terry Madonna be granted the honorary title of Professor of Government and Political Affairs Emeritus.
