The meeting was called to order at 4:07 p.m. All departments were in attendance except Academic & Student Development, Educational Foundations, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Nursing.

President McNairy congratulated Ms Mackenzie Wrobel on being selected to serve on the Board of Governors. Dr. McNairy also noted that budget information is still not yet available.
Provost
Provost Prabhu announced the arrival of 21 new tenure-track and seven temporary faculty members to Millersville as well as about 1350 new freshmen and 500 transfer students. Dr. Prabhu relayed several announcements on behalf of Associate Provost Burns. Appreciation was expressed for persons involved in Orientation. Reminders were made: Carter G. Woodsen Lecture on September 15; MS Chair site visit on October 30, 2009; MS Site Team visit February 28 - March 3, 2010; departmental MS bins due by December 4, 2009; extension of D-course expedited review through August 2010; Undergraduate Catalog available only online.
A question was raised about increases in class sizes. Dr. Prabhu indicated that budget cuts resulted in loss of some adjunct positions.
Vice President for Student Affairs
Vice President Breaux thanked faculty for helping with Orientation. She also commented on issues related to understanding and reporting potential cases of H1N1 on campus. Dr. Breaux noted that faculty are needed to lead simulated classes during Family Day on November 7, and she encouraged faculty to support Millersville athletics.
Interim Assistant Provost
Assistant Provost Redmond reminded faculty of the Early Intervention System.
VI. Reports of the Faculty Senate Standing Committees
Senator Smith thanked Dr. Janet White for assistance during the transition of UCPRC leadership. Dr. Smith noted work being done to make course proposal materials readily available online.
ASC
Senator Sikora reported on ASC hearings held in June 2009.
GCPRC
Senator Edeh Herr thanked Dr. Becky Mowrey for assistance during the transition of GCPRC leadership. The administration indicated that Deans’ Council has approved the proposal to form the Graduate Academic Appeals Committee.
EYASC
Senator Mowrey noted that the Selection Committee is ready to move forward with awarding an Educator of the Year Award in the spring.

Nominations were accepted from the floor for the election of at-large members to fill remaining vacancies. A Mowrey/Hendrick motion to close nominations was approved without dissent. A Cardwell/Saunders motion to cast a unanimous vote for all unopposed candidates was approved without dissent.
