Senator Neuville explained the integration of SPED faculty into Educational Foundations and Elementary & Early Childhood Education departments to better reflect improved curricular programs and align with Act 49-2 integration of special education into regular training for teacher candidates. Dr. Neuville highlighted how SPED has served as a voice on campus to represent training educators to meet the range of student needs. He noted that current programs are not affected, a new secondary program is anticipated, and faculty are collaborating with administration on revisioning SPED training on campus.

Provost Prabhu reported that the Multidiscplinary BA degree will be on the January agenda of the BOG. It was noted that a coordinator and curriculum committee will need to be selected.
Associate Provost for Academic Affairs
Dr. Adams reminded faculty of the Tech Showcase, including D2L upgrade information and a January 22 CAE workshop: FLIP-U. An e-mail with more information regarding instructional support during the D2L conversion will be forthcoming soon.
Associate Provost for Civic & Community Engagement
Dr. DeSantis announced Camp IDEA, January 14-18, as an opportunity for faculty to improve online teaching skills. Training includes pedagogy, course structure, and topics relevant to the online context. It was noted basic to mid-level D2L users would benefit from this training and a future version might be geared to advanced users. Camp leaders are likely to be able to tailor input for participants to help with course development. Adjuncts are welcome to participate, but full-time faculty will have priority.

(1) CHANGE IN UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
ESCI 423: Applied Geophysics, 3 credits. Proposal to change the course name, catalog description, and pre-requisites.
(2) CHANGE IN UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
SOCY 305: Social Research Methods, 3 credits. Proposal to add a W label to the course.
A Mahaffy/Cook motion to waive the two-meeting rule for action on the change to SOCY 305 was approved without dissent.
(2) CHANGE IN UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
SOCY 305: Social Research Methods, 3 credits. Proposal to add a W label to the course was approved without dissent.
(3) NEW UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
HIST 383: European Imperialism in Africa, c. 1870-1914, 3 credits, G3, W. Proposal for course to provide an informed understanding of major themes in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Africa, with a particular focus on the impact of British, French, Belgian, and German imperialism.
An Adyanga/Hardy motion to waive the two-meeting rule for action on HIST 383 was approved without dissent. It was noted the course has been taught as an experimental course and has UCPRC support for the request.
(3) NEW UNDERGRADUATE COURSE
HIST 383: European Imperialism in Africa, c. 1870-1914, 3 credits, G3, W. Proposal for course to provide an informed understanding of major themes in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Africa, with a particular focus on the impact of British, French, Belgian, and German imperialism was approved without dissent.
(4) NEW UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM
Interdepartmental minor: Heliophysics and SpaceWeather. Proposal for a minor incorporating courses in Earth Science and Physics to prepare students for careers in space weather.
A Marquez/Cardwell motion to waive the two-meeting rule for action on the Heliophysics and Space Weather minor was approved without dissent. It was noted that Physics supported the proposal from Earth Sciences. The proposed minor in not an option because of the diversity of sub-disciplines in the Earth Sciences department. The waiver will assure three current students of their status prior to graduation even though the proposal is retroactive.
(4) NEW UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM

Chair Börger-Greco requested that departments provide earlier notice of anticipated waivers to allow senators for adequate input.
