Andrew M. Baxter wins 2005 EPADEL Prize

2005 Millersville University graduate Andrew M. Baxter was named winner of the
2005 Student Paper Competition sponsored by the Eastern Pennsylvania and
Delaware Section of the Mathematical Association of America (EPADEL). His paper entitled "Combinatorial
Properties of Billiards on an Equilateral Triangle" is an adaptation of his
senior honors thesis directed by Dr. Ron Umble,
Professor of Mathematics. To quote the
judges, "[Andrew's] beautiful paper is a delightful presentation of
original work that is accessible at the undergraduate level… the committee enjoyed
reading it very much." The award
with a $200 cash prize was presented by EPADEL Student Chapter Coordinator Dr. Alicia
Sevilla and EPADEL President Dr. Dennis DeTurck at
the Fall EPADEL meeting held at Villanova
University on Saturday, November 19, 2005. Mr. Baxter is a graduate student in the
Department of Mathematics at Rutgers University,
New Brunswick, NJ.
