Academic Outcomes Assessment Committee
Assessment Planning Timeline 1997-2000
April 1997
- Nichols workshop for Group 1 departments - April 1-2
- 1st and 2nd round departments are established
- Selected faculty attend SSHE workshop on gen. ed. assessment
- Lists of current academic programs and courses in computer catalog are
distributed to all academic departments for review, correction, and
identification of programs to be assessed and in preparation for the
1998-2000 UG catalog revision.
May 1997
- Nichols workshop scheduled for Group 2 departments - October 9, 1997
- Deans' Council establishes timeline for assessment planning/activities
through the year 2000.
- Timeline is announced to all departments.
October 30, 1997
- Nichols assists Group 2 departments to initiate their assessment
activities-10/9/97
- Nichols assists Group 1 departments with their assessment plans -
10/10/97 These departments may use additional consulting help funded by the
SSHE USP grant and the University assessment budget.
- Statements of Purpose and Intended Outcomes are established by Group 1
departments for their academic programs. these plans are
reviewed/approved by the deans/associate provosts and shared with the
Academic Outcomes Assessment Committee.
November 30, 1997
- The Assessment Criteria and Procedures and a timeline for assessment
activities are established by Group 1 departments for their academic
prorams, are reviewed/approved by the deans/associate provosts and shared
with the Academic Outcomes Assessment Committee.
- Statements of Purpose and Intended Outcomes are established by the
General Education Review Committee and reviewed/approved by Faculty
Senate.
Spring 1998
- Assessment activities/tests are conducted by Group 1 departments for
their academic programs.
- Pilot testing in general education for selected students.
- Statements of Purpose and Intended Outcomes and Assessment Criteria
and Procedures and a timeline for assessment activities are established by
Group 2 departments for their programs. These plans are
reviewed/approved by the deans/associate provosts and shared with the
Academic Outcomes Assessment Committee.
- Assessment training for Group 3 programs/units.
Summer 1998
- Assessment plans, projects, results are reported in departmental
annual reports to deans.
- Associate Provost for Academic Administration prepares report for
president.
August 1998
- Results of spring 1998 assessment activities are reviewed by Group 1
departments and used to modify programs, if necessary.
1998-99
- Assessment activities/tests/surveys are conducted and results used by
Group 2 departments for their academic programs.
- The assessment cycle is repeated by Group 1 departments for previously
assessed and modified goals or new program goals.
- Statements of Purpose and Intended Outcomes and Assessment Criteria
and Procedures and a timeline for assessment activities are established by
Group 3 programs/units for their programs. These plans are
reviewed/approved by the deans/associate provosts and shared with the
Academic Outcomes Assessment Committee.
- Initial drafts of middle states report information on assessment is
created by May 1999. Sources of information are department and school
annual reports and assessment reports compiled by assessment committees.
An annual outcomes assessment report is prepared by the associate provost
for academic information which is the basis of the formal report which must be
submitted to the State System.
1999 and beyond
- The assessment is repeated and results used by all
departments/programs/units for their programs on an ongoing basis. the
outcomes assessment plan of each department/program/unit will establish a
timeframe for conducting these assessment activities and for reporting on
results.
- Assessment results are included in annual reports of departments,
deans, and provost. Assessment committees share interesting and positive
information in assessment newsletter. An annual outcomes assessment
report is prepared by the associate provost for academic administration
which is the basis of the formal report which must be submitted to the State
System.
