SUBJECT:
APPROVAL OF FACULTY SENATE CURRICULAR RECOMMENDATIONS
As the President's designee, I am informing you of the approval of the
following Faculty Senate Curricular Actions:
1. Faculty Senate actions at meeting on June 19, 1997
--Changes in Governance Manual: Reference to Grades (numerous
clarifications necessitated by forthcoming +/- grading system)
Note: the motions listed below were approved as amended by Faculty
Senate (please see attached documentation for details).
Motion #1, A,B,C -- approved.
Motion #2 -- approved as amended.
COMMENT: Senate may want to consider whether there is a conflict
between this policy and the one that states a faculty member may elect not
to give a final at all and instead hold a regular class meeting.
Motion #3 -- withdrawn (existing policy)
Motion #4, A,B,C,D,E,F,G
Item 4-E:
"Transfer students who are holders of an associate degree awarded by a
publicly supported two-year community college in Pennsylvania can expect
to receive full credit for all work successfully completed except for
remedial or developmental courses. In addition, a grade of "C-" or
higher must be achieved for transfer credit to be awarded towards
Millersville competency course requirements (English Composition and
Fundamentals of Speech)."
COMMENT: The language in this section was modified for
clarification.
Item 4-G:
COMMENT: In Item G it is assumed that departments already requiring a
C grade or higher in specific courses will now require a C- or higher. We
also infer from this motion that Senate supports the notion that a
department can request approval to require a minimum grade higher than C-
for its courses.
Motion #5 -- approved.
COMMENT: The "W" grade should be added to the list of grades that may
be repeated.
Motion #6 -- approved.
