As the President's designee, I am informing you of the approval of the following Faculty Senate Curricular Actions:
Faculty Senate action at June 11, 202, meeting:
Admission to the Major Policy for Elementary Education
Current Policy:
Transfer and Undecided Students: If space is available, admission into the Elementary Education major from other departments (including undecided students) is upon completion of 30.0 credit hours at Millersville University with a quality point average (GPA) of 2.5 or above, an interview, and approval of the chairperson of the Elementary Education Department.
New Policy:
If space is available, admission to the Elementary Education major from other majors, including the undeclared major, for students who transferred to Millersville University with 15 or more credits is upon:
If space is available, admission to the Elementary Education major from other majors, including the undeclared major, for students who entered or transferred to Millersville University with 14 or fewer semester hours of credits is upon:
COMMENT: The new policy positively impacts the students interested in majoring in Elementary Education. It reduces the possibility of students entering the major with unnecessary courses. The policy also reinforces the requirements directed by the State Department of Education.

COMMENT: Each semester several students who enter student teaching are unable to complete student teaching. Course serves as an alternative to student teaching, offering a non-basic education setting and enables the student to graduate on time. The student does not receive teacher certification.
