EDUC 564: Current Trends in Local Areas: Seminar & Community Service | This course offers prospective and practicing teachers an opportunity to learn about US minority groups that are heavily represented in their local area. Through a focus on a particular culture, students will learn about current migration trends. A possible emphasis is on how the trends relate to Latin American history and economic conditions, and the history of Latinos in this country. This course will include a community service project in a collaborative effort with local community organizations. |

EDUC 564: Current Trends & Policies in the Teaching of English Language Learners: Seminar & Community Service | This course offers prospective and practicing teachers an opportunity to learn about the linguistic and cultural diversity in their local areas. Students will examine historical and current migration trends and their effects on schooling. This course will provide participants with an opportunity to apply EDUC 561, 562 and 563 course concepts in practical collaborative efforts with local school districts and/or community organizations. Projects will include the preparation of ESL program requirements, documents, improvements and for non-practicing teachers, practical experiences in teaching ESL. |
