1 Day |
A 33-hour embryo has a largely visible neural groove and neural tube. The embryo also has defined somites. The anterior end has begun to curve slightly to one side.

2 Days | A two day-old chick embryo is normally characterized by 29-32 stormiest, a large heart that is visibly functional. The head has curved slightly further around the heart, but is at less than 90 degree angle.
2.5 Days | The chick embryo’s midbrain protrudes from its head. The head is now at a forty-five degree angle to the length of the post-anal tail. It now has 30-36 somites and contains a darker, more defined eye. The embryo has Vitelline artery and other large veins. (not shown in picture).
3 Days | The leg buds enlarge and are clearly bigger than the wing buds. The eye turns a light gray color. The Embryo is more curved and has completed its rotation.
3.5 Days | At this stage, the embryo's somites extend to the end of the tail, limbs elongate and the forebrain grows larger. The eyes continue the pigmentation process.
5 Days | At about five days, the embryo shows significant limb elongation and development. The eye is much larger and is increasingly pigmented. The midbrain is round and disproportional in relation to the rest of the body. |
