Step 2 - Mix Colors
If you are like me and only have a few colors on hand or are trying to save some money by mixing colors instead of buying each individual one, then you will need to do some color mixing to get the colors you need. Color mixing can be quite tricky. Fortunately, the lemons that we are painting really only involve two colors. Yes, just two. By using a bright yellow with various amounts of some white, we can get the three different shades of the yellow we need. I started by taking the yellow I had and saving that as my darkest yellow. Then used a small amount in two separate containers and added white paint to make each one lighter than the previous for a total of three yellow colors. For the blue background, I simply mixed white paint with a small amount of Anita’s navy blue, but you can make your background any color you like!
