Henry VIII marries his first wife

In 1509 King Henry VIII of England marries his first wife,Catherine of Aragon. This is the first marriage of the six marriages he will have in his lifetime. When Catherine failed to produce a male heir. Henry divorced her against the will of the Roman Catholic Church, when Catherine failed to produce a male heir, precipitating the Protestant Reformation in England.

University of Alabama desegregated

In 1963 the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and allows two African American students, Vivian Malone and James Hood, to enroll. Malone and Hood arrived at the University of Alabama to register for summer classes and it took the National Guard to ensure their enrollment.

In 1967 the Six-Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbors ends with a United Nations-brokered cease-fire. The outnumbered Israel Defense Forces achieved a swift victory in the brief war.

“E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” released

In 1982 the science-fiction classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was released. Storyline was created by Steven Spielberg. Opening weekend grossed $11.9 million and E.T. stayed at the top of the charts for over four months. The movie won four Academy Awards.
