I. Announcements of the Faculty Senate Chairperson
Due to Spring Break, the Minutes of the March 18 Faculty Senate meeting were not sent to Marie for distribution in time. They will be approved at the April 15 meeting.
1. On behalf of the Faculty Senate, Chairperson J. Piperberg congratulated Provost McNairy on being named to succeed Dr. Caputo as President of Millersville University.
2. The following curricular approvals have been received:
Revision to Women's Studies Minor. Approved, effective Summer 2003
Math 472--Financial Mathematics, 3 credits, Non-General Education Course. Approved, effective Spring 2004

3. UCPRC Chair R. Wismer's proposal permitting students with 90 credits or less to opt for newly approved graduation requirements passed to facilitate compliance with the 120-credit mandate was inserted as Item 12 on the Agenda.
4. The annual reports for Senate Committees will be due at the May meeting.
II. Report of the Student Senate President
Student Senate President B. Danz reported that the Student Senate will be sponsoring a program honoring President Caputo.
III. Report of the Graduate Student Organization

IV. Report of the Administrative Officers
Provost F. McNairy announced that the Holocaust Conference would be Sunday, April 8; she encouraged faculty to participate in events on the University Calendar.
Associate Provost C. Phillips announced that registration for the Fall Semester of 2003 starts at the end of the first week of April. DARS can be run during late hours and on the weekend that week. The AWhat-If@ feature is also available for students and has been enhanced.
Assistant Provost J. Bello-Ogunu announced that there will be a reception in April honoring faculty advisors. The Carnival of Majors would be Wednesday, April 2.
Vice President R. Thomas pointed out the policies and procedures for campus demonstrations. He also presented a handout describing the graduation rates for MU student athletes, which is above average for all MU students. {See Attachment #1}
V. Report of the Faculty Senate Standing Committees
UCPRC Chair R. Wismer introduced program change proposals from the Industry & Technology Department: the B. S.-ITEC/Electronics option, the A. T. -ITEC/Electronics option and the ITEC Electronics Minor.
J. Piperberg, reporting for GCPRC Chair R. Mowrey, introduced a name and description change for the Introduction to Microcomputers in the Classroom course (EDFN 530). The changes reflect a broadened scope for the course to meet accreditation requirements for secondary education programs. The new course title is Instructional Technology, Design, and Assessment.

CHANGE IN COURSES/CURRICULA
Completion of the BSE in Mathematics, BSE in Mathematics, Actuarial
Science Option and BSE in Mathematics, Statistics Option. Deletion of
EDFN 330 (Microcomputers in the Classroom, 3 credits) from the
"Professional Education" requirements. To bring all BSE (Mathematics)
programs into compliance with the mandated 120-credit maximum. Desired
effective date--Summer 2003.

IX. Proposal to Send Course Proposals Requesting G1, G2 and G3 Labels to the Appropriate School Curriculum Committee When They Originate from a Department Outside the School
A T. Kevorkian/B. Stengel motion, which rescinded the previous proposal that had been sent to the General Education Review Committee for evaluation in November, passed. The proposal was thus replaced with the current F. Bremer proposal that was revised after the March 18, 2003 meeting. {See Attachment #2} The F. Bremer proposal passed on an E. Blazer/R. Bookmiller motion.
X. Proposal to Increase the Number of Required Related Courses that Can Count Toward General Education Requirements from Four to Six
This proposal from the General Education Review Committee passed. {See Attachment #3}
XI. Proposal to Allow Students to Adopt New 120 Credit Degree Requirements if They Have Earned 90 or Fewer Credits
This proposal from UCPRC passed. {See Attachment #2 of the 3/18/03 Minutes}
XII. Election--Senate Secretary
The election was postponed due to a lack of nominees. Chairperson J. Piperberg urged Faculty Senators to volunteer for this important duty.
XIII. Discussion of Teacher/Educator of the Year Award
This discussion was postponed until the next Faculty Senate meeting.
XIV. Discussion of Referendum on SSHE Policies
This item was removed from the agenda and postponed indefinitely upon passage of a J. Miller/B. Stengel motion.
