Sea Urchin Gamete collection (alternate method)

First, cut shell around mouth with sharp but sturdy scissors.

Next, remove mouth region and pour out water inside urchin.

Gonads lie along inside of shell.
Remove digestive system (dark).

Carefully separate gonads from shell with forceps and remove.

Transfer ovaries (yellow to orange) to cheese cloth above beaker.Pour sea water gently through cheese cloth to isolate eggs.

Transfer testes (cream-colored) to petri dish on ice. Sperm will be extruded. Collect into microfuge tube.
